Cold email unsubscribe rate — the honesty metric

Unsubscribe rate is uncomfortable to look at, which is exactly why it's useful. It's the cleanest signal of whether your outreach is relevant or just noise.

How we measure it

Opted-out leads ÷ contacted leads across 1OAKS campaigns. This counts explicit unsubscribes and "do not contact" replies that 1OAKS auto-suppresses.

How to read it

A low, steady unsubscribe rate means you're reaching roughly the right people with roughly the right message. A *climbing* rate means one of two things: your targeting widened past your real ICP, or your follow-ups outstayed their welcome.

It's also a compliance and deliverability signal — opt-outs you honor instantly protect your domain; opt-outs you ignore destroy it.

What keeps it low

  • Tighter ICP. Fewer, better-fit prospects opt out less.
  • Fewer, more relevant follow-ups. A 3-email sequence that's specific beats a 7-email sequence that nags.
  • Instant, frictionless opt-out. Honoring it immediately (1OAKS auto-stops the sequence and suppresses the contact permanently) keeps complaints — the far more damaging signal — from happening instead.

The takeaway

Watch the trend, not the absolute number. A rising unsubscribe rate is your list or cadence telling you something before your domain reputation does.
